How I Make Our Home Feel Cozy From September Through January

From the first crisp days of fall through the quiet cozy weeks of January, I’m sharing the simple decor changes that make our home feel warm and welcoming. See how I use layered textures, soft lighting, seasonal greenery, candles, and a few thoughtful swaps to carry our living room, dining room, bedroom, and kitchen through the entire cozy season—without starting over each month.

SEASONAL

As the weather cools down, I love making our home feel a little warmer, softer, and more inviting. But instead of completely redecorating for every season, I start with cozy basics that work from early fall all the way through winter—then make a few simple swaps as the months go on.

In this post, I’m sharing how I bring cozy seasonal style into our living room, dining room, bedroom, and primary bath without buying a whole new set of decor each time. Think layered throws, warm lighting, natural textures, candles, greenery, and meaningful details that make every room feel welcoming.

The goal is simple: create a home that feels beautiful for the season, while using what you already have and making intentional additions that can carry you from September through January.

All three of these pictures have two things in common: furs and fall/winter floral stems. Would you believe I have not bought one fall or winter decor item? I just pull out furs I have collected, add a cowhide rug on top of the living room rug, and bring out all my cozy blankets. The fur pelts get the most use. I put them on chairs, on ottomans, on benches. They bring cozy to a new level because they literally are the coziest, softest things ever. I reuse these year after year and they last. Also, you can bring the outdoor stems in to use for free decor. I do that all the time in the fall and winter.

Next up for easy fall and winter swaps that are basically free and easy. Use your lamps. I rarely turn on the over head lights, especially in the fall and winter time. I love using lamps and fireplaces instead. Every single room needs a lamp. The soft lights bring peace and comfort. Lastly, light the candles. I will link the candles I use. I always have a few candles burning in the evenings.

Lastly, bring out the cozy bedding. As nights get colder I add in a duvet at the end of the bed and love linen or bamboo sheets. More blankets are a must, not to just look cozy, but for your comfort when sleeping. All my bedding is currently on Amazon and good deals, including the bamboo and linen sheets I can't live without.
